Spanish Government and Ceuta Agree on Humanitarian Spaces Amid Political Tension

The crisis stems from a mass entry of migrants from Morocco on July 30 and 31, with reports indicating that thousands of people have since been sleeping on beaches and in industrial areas. Humanitarian organizations, such as the Elín Association, have criticized the slow response, noting that many unaccompanied minors lack access to basic sanitation like showers and toilets. While center-left sources frame the conflict as a result of Vivas succumbing to pressure from the far-right and racist discourse, center-right sources emphasize the lack of coordination between authorities and the dire conditions of the migrants. Meanwhile, some center-right reporting links the events in Ceuta to a broader European trend, noting that right-wing leaders are using the crisis to advocate for the creation of deportation centers outside the European Union.
