Inventors from Taiwan and Hong Kong won top prizes and numerous medals at the Silicon Valley International Inventions Festival (SVIIF) held at the Santa Clara Convention Center in California from Friday to Sunday. The event featured entries from more than 30 countries across general and youth categories.
A solar powered air to fertiliser production platform created by Amonova won the festival's Grand Prix. This system uses air, water, and renewable energy to produce nitrogen fertiliser locally, which founder Simson Wu stated allows farmers to regain control over production. The Hong Kong delegation secured a total of 35 medals, including 22 gold and 13 silver, as well as eight special awards.
Taiwanese inventors earned a record 24 gold medals, eight silver, and one bronze from 35 entries. Taiwanese students won the top prize in the Youth Talent Competition category for AllerDetect GO, an active health protection app for children, older adults, and people with allergies. Additionally, 10 year old Hsu Ting wei received the International Federation of Inventors' Associations best invention award for a non contact security screening platform. This device combines air sampling, gas chromatography mass spectrometry, and AI odor recognition to detect items such as drugs or diseased livestock.
Jury chairman Amin Ghafooripour noted that Taiwanese inventors focused on applying new technologies to create practical solutions for everyday life. SVIIF board committee member Matt Nuccio praised the quality of the innovations produced by the young Taiwanese participants.
