Thailand will reduce the visa free stay period from 60 days to 30 days for citizens of 60 countries starting September 15. This new policy, published in the Royal Gazette, includes citizens of India, Taiwan, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. The Thai government is moving away from a uniform 60 day policy that previously covered 93 countries and territories. Under the revised rules, citizens of Mauritius and Seychelles will receive a 15 day visa exemption. Additionally, the number of countries eligible for visas on arrival will be reduced from 31 to three. Thailand's Interior Ministry stated that the revisions reflect current circumstances and consider national security, economic factors, and the promotion of tourism.
