Three women arrested after altercation at Kwun Tong shopping mall play area

Three women were arrested following a fight in the play area of the APM shopping mall in Kwun Tong on Wednesday afternoon. The individuals involved include a 68 year old woman, her 34 year old daughter, and another 34 year old woman. The incident began around 4.45pm when a dispute broke out between a five year old girl and a young boy over play installations.

Viral video footage shows the 68 year old woman, who is the boy's grandmother, shoving and slapping the five year old girl across the face, causing the child to fall. The girl suffered a red and swollen cheek and was taken to United Christian Hospital for minor facial injuries. Following the slap, another woman approached and hit the grandmother, and the boy's mother also became involved in the scuffle. One report notes that the girl and her mother are from mainland China and hold two way permits.

Reporting on the event differs regarding the sequence of aggression. A center left source focuses on the elderly woman slapping the child as the primary catalyst. In contrast, a center right source emphasizes police findings suggesting that the grandmother may have been struck first by the girl's mother before the slapping occurred.
