Tropical Storm Maymay, known internationally as Kujira, is expected to make landfall in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, or La Union by Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning, August 6. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the storm has intensified with maximum sustained winds of 75 km/h and gustiness up to 90 km/h. The storm is projected to weaken into a tropical depression and then a low pressure area on Thursday.
Heavy to torrential rainfall is forecast for several provinces in Northern and Central Luzon, including Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Benguet. Simultaneously, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, enhanced by the storm, is bringing rain to Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas.
