Minister Dias Toffoli of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has removed the judgment of Renan Santos' presidential candidacy registration from the court's agenda. The ruling, published on Saturday, postponed a hearing originally scheduled for Monday, August 31. Toffoli cited indications of illegalities regarding the declaration of social media profiles used by the candidacy of Renan Santos and his running mate, Aroldo Medina.
The dispute centers on the timing of the candidates' disclosures. While the registration request was filed on August 7, the candidates provided complementary information on August 19 listing a total of 18 social media profiles. Toffoli stated that this late submission requires further analysis to determine if it violates electoral laws and TSE resolutions regarding internet propaganda. The profiles include personal accounts and pages such as Onca Viral, Multiverso Amarelo, and Jaguatirica Hub.
In a video released on Sunday, Renan Santos denied any wrongdoing and stated he would not bow his head. He claimed the issue is a systemic problem within the TSE affecting all candidates and rejected allegations of abuse of economic power, noting that his campaign relies on private donations and crowdfunding. The Missao party has filed a request for reconsideration, arguing that the minister's decision is null because the rapporteur cannot initiate an investigation into propaganda irregularities during the candidacy registration process.
