Two people have died and several others are feared trapped under debris following a landslide in the Kurla area of Mumbai. The incident occurred around 3 am on Wednesday in the Ashoknagar area under the jurisdiction of the Ghatkopar police, following heavy rainfall that lashed the city on Tuesday.

Officials identified the deceased as Sahil Ansari, 28, and Mohamad Samir, 14. Two others, Sohel Ansari, 18, and Mohamad Ansari, 14, were injured and taken to a hospital in stable condition. DCP Ganesh Shinde stated that four to five people are likely trapped, and rescue operations are currently underway. Personnel from the BMC, NDRF, and other agencies have been deployed to the site, and Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde visited the location to supervise the search efforts.

The landslide follows a period of intense monsoon rains that have caused waterlogging and disrupted transport and air traffic in the city. In a separate incident on Tuesday night, a fire in a 12 storey residential building in Vile Parle killed two people and injured six others.
