Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

Typhoon Chan-hom made landfall near Tokyo in the Kanto region on Tuesday evening. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, this marks the first time a typhoon has made landfall in Ibaraki Prefecture since records began in 1951. The storm is moving in an unusual east to west path due to a high pressure system north of the Japanese archipelago.

Technical data from the Japan Meteorological Agency indicates the 15th typhoon of 2026 had a barometric pressure of 980 hectopascals and maximum wind speeds of 126 kilometers per hour as of Tuesday night. Heavy rain is forecast across northeastern and western Japan through Wednesday, with expectations of up to 180 millimeters in the Kanto Koshin region. Local authorities have issued warnings for rising river levels and potential flooding in low lying areas.

Impacts include roughly 640 power outages in Ibaraki Prefecture as of 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Tokyo Electric Power Company. The storm is expected to reach western Japan and weaken into a tropical depression by Wednesday afternoon, August 12, 2026.
