Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in the city of Yuhuan in China's Zhejiang province on Sunday evening. The storm brought maximum sustained winds of approximately 150 kilometers per hour and triggered a red alert, the highest warning level issued by China's National Meteorological Centre. Authorities in eastern China implemented massive precautions, including the evacuation of nearly 1 million people according to some reports, while other sources specified that nearly 99,000 people were displaced in Fujian province. Transportation was heavily disrupted with over 1,000 flights canceled, including roughly 1,400 at Shanghai's main airports and 270 at Hangzhou airport. In Okinawa, Japan, seven people suffered minor injuries and over 5,000 households lost power. In Taiwan, the storm caused fallen trees and power disruptions in Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan, leading to the cancellation of over 180 flights and dozens of ferry services. Additionally, the storm's outer circulation pushed warm air toward Hong Kong, resulting in a record breaking temperature of 36.9 degrees Celsius. Meteorologists expect the storm to weaken as it moves further inland across eastern China, though the risk of flooding and landslides remains high.
