Ukrainian drones carried out a series of massive strikes across several Russian regions on July 27. In Rostov-on-Don, the attacks killed at least two people and injured between five and eight others, causing damage to apartment buildings, private homes, and warehouses. Reports from Belgorod indicate that twelve people were injured in the city center where residential buildings were damaged. In Yaroslavl, one person was injured and several vehicles and homes were damaged.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces targeted oil facilities in the Yaroslavl region and Udmurtia as part of a strategy of long-range sanctions to limit Russia's war financing. While Governor Alexander Brechalov of the Udmurt Republic described the strike on his region as the most massive in recent times, he reported no injuries there. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that air defenses shot down 276 Ukrainian drones overnight over various regions, including occupied Crimea and the Black and Azov seas.
Outlets with a center-left lean emphasized the civilian toll and damage to residential areas in Rostov-on-Don and Belgorod. In contrast, the outlet with a center lean focused on the strategic targeting of oil infrastructure and export terminals.
