A massive overnight Ukrainian drone attack targeted the Russian port city of Novorossiysk and other areas in the Krasnodar region, resulting in civilian casualties and significant infrastructure damage. Russian officials reported that an 8 year old child was killed in Novorossiysk, while another man was killed in the village of Volna. Multiple sources report that at least eight people were injured in the city of Novorossiysk. The mayor of Novorossiysk stated that the city's water supply was shut off and a state of emergency was declared. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the operation, stating that the military targeted a naval base, air defense positions, piers, and seaport infrastructure.
The attack caused substantial damage to grain export capabilities. Three of Russia's largest grain terminals in Novorossiysk halted operations, including the Novorossiysk Grain Terminal owned by Demetra and the United Grain Co. plant. Reports indicate that a loading gallery crashed to the ground and truck unloading facilities were damaged. Additionally, drone debris hit 21 residential buildings and four businesses in Novorossiysk, and a public school was reportedly damaged. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses shot down 502 Ukrainian drones across various regions and occupied Crimea.
Simultaneously, Russia conducted strikes within Ukraine. Russian attacks killed two people in the city of Kherson and caused a fire at a shopping mall in Zaporizhzhia, which cut power to 1,200 consumers. Russia's Defense Ministry also claimed to have hit a fuel depot in Odesa and taken control of the village of Vodiane in the Kharkiv region. Other reports noted that a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery in the Orenburg region led to fuel rationing in that area.
