Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.

US nonfarm payrolls unexpectedly declined in July, with the number of employees outside of agriculture falling by 23,000. This figure was significantly lower than the 80,000 increase predicted by economists. Despite the drop in payrolls, the unemployment rate eased to 4.1 percent.

Financial markets reacted positively to the weak labor data. US stocks gained, and several European indices reached record highs, including the Dax in Germany, which closed at 26,319.45 points. The Euro rose by 0.5 percent to 1.1576 dollars, while the dollar faced pressure. Gold prices increased by 3 percent to a seven week high, and the yield on the 10 year US Treasury note fell by 4.7 basis points to 4.623 percent.

Investors interpreted the soft jobs report as a sign that the US Federal Reserve may be less likely to raise interest rates. Market estimates for a September rate hike dropped from 55 percent to approximately 44 percent. However, some analysts noted that inflation figures remaining above target could still maintain pressure on the central bank to tighten policy.

Outlets with a center lean framed the event as a source of skepticism regarding future rate hikes and a catalyst for stock gains. A center right outlet framed the report as a relief for investors that eased concerns over interest rates while also highlighting broader economic factors such as energy prices and corporate earnings.

How each side framed it

Centre
Framed the weak jobs report as a direct trigger for market gains and a reason to doubt upcoming Fed rate hikes.
Centre-right
Framed the data as a relief for investors while contextualizing it within a broader report on EU record highs and energy price volatility.
