Union Minister JP Nadda Meets Anti-Reservation Protesters

Union Minister JP Nadda met with members of the Reservation Hatao Andolan on Thursday to discuss demands for replacing caste based reservations in education and government jobs with income based quotas. The meeting followed a protest at Jantar Mantar on August 21 and previous discussions between the group and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. Nadda described the discussions as cordial on X and indicated that further meetings would take place soon. The delegation included Harsh Dubey, Ran Bahadur Singh Chauhan, and Mrityunjay Pathak. Dubey and Chauhan stated that the government assured them their demands would be considered, though Chauhan warned that protests would resume if demands are not met.

The Reservation Hatao Andolan seeks a system where quotas are based on economic status, disability, or family status rather than caste. Current quotas include 27 percent for Other Backward Classes, 15 percent for Scheduled Castes, 7.5 percent for Scheduled Tribes, and 10 percent for Economically Weaker Sections.
