- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
The United States, Iran, and Oman are nearing an interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil and gas supplies. According to reports from Axios and other outlets, the proposed 60 day arrangement would establish a northern shipping lane for inbound traffic through Iranian waters and a southern lane for outbound traffic through Omani waters. The deal would reportedly involve no tolls and a 30 day window to clear mines from the median lane. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicated that an agreement could be reached as soon as Wednesday.
President Donald Trump combined optimism about the negotiations with military threats during an interview with Fox News. He stated that the strait would open very soon or Iran would be hit very hard. Trump claimed that Iran is keen to seal a deal to end the conflict, which began on February 28 when the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Conversely, the Iranian foreign ministry has denied direct negotiations with Washington, asserting that its discussions are exclusively with Oman.
Global oil prices fell significantly on news of the potential deal, with Brent crude dropping below 80 dollars per barrel. Despite the diplomatic progress, maritime tensions remain high. A cargo vessel was reportedly struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz, and an Indian flagged vessel sank in the Red Sea following an attack attributed by some sources to Iran backed Houthi rebels.
Simultaneously, reports from multiple sources indicate that the US military has used virtually all of its stockpile of long range precision missiles during the five month conflict. This has raised concerns among analysts regarding the US ability to deter other adversaries, such as China and Russia. While the White House has stated that US ammunition stocks remain superior to any other nation, some analysts suggest the current levels could limit the US ability to force Iran to accept specific terms.
