US Supreme Court Allows Trump to Continue White House Ballroom Construction

The US Supreme Court has issued a temporary ruling allowing Donald Trump to proceed with the construction of a 400 million dollar ballroom at the White House. Chief Justice John Roberts suspended a previous court order that had halted the project. This decision follows a lawsuit by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argued that the construction would cause irreversible damage to a historic building. A federal appeals court had previously ruled that Trump, as a temporary tenant of the White House, cannot make such alterations without approval from the US Congress.

Trump and his legal team argue that the project is essential for national security. They state that the new complex and associated security measures are necessary to protect the president, his family, and staff from threats such as drones, ballistic missiles, and biological hazards. Trump claimed on Truth Social that the military and previous presidents have wanted such a facility for over a century. He further suggested that a recent shooting at a White House press dinner would not have occurred if the secure ballroom had already been completed.

The National Trust for Historic Preservation disputes these claims, stating that a ballroom does not constitute a national security emergency and that plans should have been reviewed by federal oversight agencies. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Trump is also planning a separate 11,000 square foot banquet hall at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey.
