The West Bengal Police Special Task Force arrested Aditya Singh, a college student, on Monday, August 3, 2026, in connection with a Pakistan backed terror module. Singh was apprehended in the Howrah district. He is the third person arrested in the case, following the apprehension of Hamim Mondal in Bardhaman and Arpita Sarkar in Jharkhand on July 31. The suspects are allegedly linked to the Jaish e Mohammed operative Hamim Mondal and the Shahzad Bhatti gang.
Investigations indicate the network conducted surveillance on high profile targets, including Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, state ministers, and top police officials. One source specifies that the targeted minister was Umesh Rai, a legislator from Howrah North, and that Singh allegedly shared photos and movement details of Rai and his son. Additionally, Mondal reportedly planned to obtain police uniforms to infiltrate student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to incite violence. The protests were related to NEET paper leaks and exam irregularities.
The National Investigation Agency has joined the investigation to interrogate Sarkar and Mondal. State intelligence agencies are currently examining financial transactions and cross border communications. Police have seized bank accounts, gadgets, and documents. While Singh's family expressed ignorance regarding his activities, officials believe he was recruited through encrypted messaging platforms.
