Elena Morgunova, the wife of Russian performance artist Pavel Krisevich, has been sentenced to 10 days of administrative arrest after being detained in the town of Skopin in Russia's Ryazan region on August 28. Morgunova had recently returned to Russia from France for a visit. According to reports from Zona Svobody, Slovo Zashchite, and Ostorozhno Media, she was traveling by bus with her mother when police stopped the vehicle under the pretext of checking documents. Officers reportedly focused their questioning on Morgunova and her mother, specifically asking Morgunova about her time in France.
Reports indicate that Morgunova was charged with disobeying police orders after she initially refused to unlock her phone. One source notes that police threatened to jail her mother and leave their dog on the street to coerce her into unlocking the device. While she eventually complied, she was still sentenced to 10 days of arrest. Zona Svobody reports that FSB officers have since been questioning her.
Her husband, Pavel Krisevich, was sentenced to five years in a penal colony in 2022 for a 2021 performance on Red Square involving a manifesto and gunfire. He was released in January 2025 and left Russia for France in December 2025 following a series of arrests and a designation as a foreign agent. Separately, former Pussy Riot activist Rita Flores recently claimed that the FSB recruited her in early 2023 to gather information on artists and activists, including Krisevich.
