Zepto and Indira Canteen Warehouses Sealed in Bengaluru Food Safety Raids

The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote and an Indira Canteen warehouse in Gottigere on Tuesday following inspections that revealed food safety violations. Officials reported finding unhygienic food handling and storage conditions, non compliant labelling, and misbranding at the facilities. The Zepto warehouse is operated at a Nippon Express facility. In addition to the sealing, the FSDA issued notices and recommended filing cases before adjudicating officers for further legal action.

The raids extended to other Indira Canteens in Lingarajapuram and Singasandra, where officials also found FSSAI violations. Samples of cooking oil, pulses, turmeric powder, sugar, salt, jaggery, and other prepared foods were collected for laboratory analysis. Zepto responded in a statement, saying the company fully cooperated with the routine inspection and is taking necessary steps to address the observations to maintain high standards of hygiene.

These actions are part of a wider enforcement drive in Bengaluru that has expanded from restaurants and hotels to food storage and distribution centers. Previous inspections at facilities operated by Coldman Logistics and Radhakrishna Foodland uncovered nearly 70 kg of sauces and 10 litres of beverages nearing expiry. Other raids in the city, including one at a UB City establishment, resulted in the seizure of rotten meat and other food items deemed unfit for consumption. The department has issued an advisory to food businesses regarding pest control, cross contamination, and the disposal of expired food.
