- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has been declared the winner of the Osun State governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result early Sunday morning, stating that Mr. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes. He defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished third with 17,180 votes. The victory gives Mr. Adeleke another four year term in office after he first won the governorship in 2022 while running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr. Adeleke won 19 of the state's 30 local government areas, while Mr. Oyebamiji won 11. According to INEC, 1,010,684 voters were accredited for the election, and 985,079 votes were valid, while 20,721 were rejected. The Transition Monitoring Group (TMG) commended INEC for the use of technology and real time results transmission, although the group noted that issues such as vote buying and voter intimidation were still present.
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Mr. Adeleke via a phone call, describing the outcome as a reaffirmation of democratic rule in Nigeria. Other opposition figures, including Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, also offered congratulations. Mr. Obi specifically praised the vigilance of Osun youths in defending their mandate. Additionally, Afrobeats singer Davido celebrated the victory of his uncle on social media.
In a press conference in Osogbo, Mr. Adeleke pledged to build on his administration's achievements and correct previous errors. He stated that his vision is to transform Osun from a civil service state into an industrial state and an investment destination. While Mr. Adeleke extended an olive branch to his opponents, the APC stated that its leadership is studying the results and will explore all constitutional and legal avenues to correct any observed anomalies.
Center leaning outlets framed the event as a victory for democratic resilience and a morale boost for the opposition, while also highlighting the specific electoral data and the legal reactions from the ruling party.
