At least five people were killed and several others wounded on Tuesday after a vehicle loaded with ammunition exploded in the town of Binnish, located in Syria's northwestern Idlib province. Syrian authorities, the state broadcaster Al-Ikhbariya, and the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported the incident. While the number of dead is consistently reported as at least five, casualty counts for the injured vary. The Idlib Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate reported five wounded, while the Anadolu Agency reported eight wounded.
Emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene and transported the wounded to nearby hospitals. Two vehicles in the vicinity were also destroyed. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the blast caused panic among residents, and subsequent explosions of ammunition created further risks from shrapnel. The AFP news agency cited an unnamed government official stating the vehicle belonged to a local arms dealer.
Authorities have not officially announced the cause of the blast. While one report notes that explosions at military sites and arms depots are not uncommon in the region, another report highlights the uncertainty regarding whether the event was accidental or a deliberate car bomb. Syrian media did not specify which faction owned the ammunition.
