Anhumas Train Station in Campinas Approaches Centenary

The Anhumas railway station in Campinas, located in the interior of São Paulo, will celebrate its one hundredth anniversary in one month. Inaugurated on October 12, 1926, the site was originally known as Anhumas-Nova and was built 200 meters from the original station founded on May 3, 1875. The original structure operated for 41 years as part of the Companhia Mogiana de Estradas de Ferro before being demolished and replaced by the current building.

The station has served as a filming location for numerous television productions, including the soap operas Terra Nostra, Sinhá Moça, and Além da Ilusão, as well as the series Mad Maria and the film Marighella. Although the station was abandoned after cargo traffic ended in 1977, it was taken over in 1981 by the Brazilian Railway Preservation Association (ABPF). The ABPF now uses the site as the starting point for the Viação Férrea Campinas-Jaguariúna (VFCJ) steam train excursions.

Historically, the Mogiana company existed until 1971 when it was incorporated into Fepasa. Control of Fepasa was later transferred by the São Paulo government to the RFFSA in the second half of the 1990s. Both Fepasa and RFFSA have since been extinct. Currently, the steam train offers trips from Anhumas to Jaguariúna with durations of two to three and a half hours, featuring music, demonstrations of train operations, and visits to old farms.
