- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Anthropic announced in a Threat Intelligence report that it has disrupted attempts to use its Claude AI models for the development of biological weapons, cyber espionage, and weapons software. The company documented five instances where users attempted to use the models to support bioweapons research, including one case where a user in an unsupported region used virtual private server infrastructure to plan avian influenza mammalian adaptation experiments. Anthropic also identified operators in Russia, China, and Yemen using the platform to develop software for conventional weapons such as missiles, firearms, and armed drones.
Additionally, the company reported a cyber espionage campaign targeting Ukrainian government, military, and diplomatic sectors. This operation utilized multi agent frameworks to automate phishing and malware evasion. Anthropic noted that the tradecraft was consistent with Midnight Blizzard, a threat actor the U.S. government has linked to Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service. The report also accused Chinese competitors of attempting to hack the system to extract the capabilities of Claude.
In response to these threats, Anthropic banned the involved accounts and updated its model safeguards. Jacob Klein, the head of threat intelligence at Anthropic, stated that the increasing capabilities of AI models have created new risks that did not exist a year ago. Two researchers from the company also warned that rapidly progressing AI could potentially lead to human extinction in the future.
