Argentina Issues Widespread Weather Alerts for Storms, Wind, and Extreme Cold

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued orange and yellow alerts for strong storms, high winds, and extreme cold affecting multiple provinces in Argentina for Thursday, August 6. An orange alert for dangerous storms is in effect for the city of Buenos Aires, the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), and parts of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe, Corrientes, and Córdoba. These areas may experience intense rainfall between 50 and 80 millimeters, hail, and wind gusts exceeding 90 kilometers per hour. Yellow alerts for similar phenomena apply to La Pampa, San Luis, Misiones, Santiago del Estero, and Formosa. In the AMBA region, temperatures are expected to range between a minimum of 9 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 14 degrees Celsius, with storms persisting through the morning and afternoon before subsiding at night. A yellow alert for strong winds is also active across a broad region including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Mendoza, San Juan, and several northern provinces. Additionally, the SMN warned of snowfall in the Andean region of Mendoza and parts of Chubut, while extreme cold alerts were issued for Chubut and Santa Cruz, where temperatures may drop to minus 1 degree Celsius. The SMN recommended that citizens avoid outdoor activities, prepare emergency kits, and secure electricity and gas supplies.
