The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for extreme cold and strong winds across several regions of Argentina for Sunday, September 6. The extreme cold alert affects 16 districts, including the city of Buenos Aires, the province of Buenos Aires, Entre Rios, Corrientes, Misiones, central Santa Fe, southern Cordoba, San Luis, Mendoza, La Pampa, and northwestern Neuquen. The SMN warns that these temperatures can be dangerous for risk groups, such as children, people over 65, and those with chronic illnesses. Residents are advised to wear multiple layers of light clothing, keep homes safely heated, and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
Simultaneously, yellow alerts for wind are in effect for western Jujuy, Salta, Catamarca, and La Rioja, as well as parts of northwestern Tucuman and Neuquen. In mountainous areas, wind speeds between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour are expected, with gusts potentially reaching 100 kilometers per hour. Central Jujuy is under a yellow alert for Zonda wind, which may bring gusts over 70 kilometers per hour, reduced visibility, and dry conditions. The SMN recommends securing outdoor objects and avoiding shelter under billboards or trees.
In the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area, the city is expected to have a minimum of 3 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 10 degrees Celsius. In Punta Lara, Buenos Aires, the forecast predicts a maximum of 10 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 0 degrees Celsius with humidity around 84 percent. Temperatures are expected to rise on Monday and Tuesday.
