Argentine Government Announces New Sovereignty Measures for Malvinas Islands

President Javier Milei has announced a series of measures to strengthen Argentina's claim of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, including the introduction of a National Sovereignty Defense project in Congress. This project seeks to modify Law 26.659 to increase sanctions and penalties against companies involved in unauthorized operations on the islands, specifically targeting hydrocarbon exploitation. The government has also issued three decrees to increase budgets for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the SIDE, and the Ministry of Defense, the latter of which includes funding for a naval base in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego.
