- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
At least 24 schoolchildren have died following a major fire in Bukavu, a city in the east of Congo-Kinshasa currently held by rebels. According to Dunia Masumbuko Bwenge, the vice governor of South Kivu under the AFC/M23 rebel administration, the victims include 19 girls and five boys. The fire destroyed two schools and approximately 300 wooden houses. An additional 29 people were reported injured, though medical personnel and residents fear the death toll may rise.
Local health centers reported receiving ten victims, while another hospital stated that more than 50 students were admitted, 14 of whom died from their injuries. Witnesses described the fire breaking out near the schools just as children were arriving. The cause of the blaze remains unclear, and investigations have been launched. The city of Bukavu was brought under the control of the M23 rebels, who are supported by Rwanda, during an offensive early last year.
