Bangladesh has indicated it would positively consider joining the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement if a proposal is received. Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman told parliament that while the government has not yet received a formal proposal, it would view such an offer favorably. The pact was signed on August 7 by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan to strengthen security cooperation among the three nations.
Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman stated that joining the agreement is entirely Bangladesh's own decision. He wrote on Facebook that there is no reason for others to object if the country takes action in the interests of its people.
