Barcelona Sign Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on Transfer Deadline Day

FC Barcelona announced the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal on Tuesday. The 29 year old striker has signed a contract with the Catalan club that runs until June 30, 2029. While Barcelona did not officially disclose the transfer fee, multiple reports indicate the club will pay approximately 10 million euros, which is roughly 8.6 million pounds or 11.6 million dollars, plus bonuses. Jesus arrives as the seventh signing of Barcelona's summer window, joining other new arrivals including Anthony Gordon, Rodri, Karim Adeyemi, Jesse Bisiwu, Joao Cancelo, and Dominik Livakovic.

The signing comes after Barcelona failed to secure their primary target, Julian Alvarez, from Atletico Madrid. Atletico Madrid reportedly refused to negotiate with their La Liga rivals, with some reports noting a strained relationship between the two clubs. Barcelona's manager, Hansi Flick, stated that Jesus fits the team's style of play and will be an important addition to an attack weakened by the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres. Some reports also mention the departure of Marcus Rashford.

Jesus joins Barcelona following a period of reduced playing time at Arsenal, where he fell behind Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the pecking order. His career was further disrupted by a serious knee injury in January 2025. However, both Jesus and Hansi Flick have asserted that the player is now physically fit and that the injury is no longer a problem. During his time in England, Jesus scored 32 goals in 123 appearances for Arsenal and 95 goals over six years with Manchester City.
