Bombay High Court Orders CBI Probe into Death of Disha Salian

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to probe the 2020 death of Disha Salian, a former manager for actor Sushant Singh Rajput. A division bench of Justices Sarang V Kotwal and Ranjitsinha R Bhonsale directed the CBI to register a first information report based on a statement by Salian's father, Satish Salian. The court specified that no person should be treated as an accused or suspect unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material to reasonably suspect their involvement.

Disha Salian died in June 2020 after falling from the 14th floor of a residential building in Mumbai. Police initially registered an accidental death case and later closed the inquiry in February 2021, concluding she died by suicide and finding no evidence of foul play. The case gained significant attention because it occurred six days before the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Satish Salian challenged the police version in a petition filed in March 2025, alleging that his daughter was gangraped and murdered and that influential figures orchestrated a cover up.

The case has been marked by political tension. A center right source notes that BJP leaders Narayan and Nitesh Rane previously alleged a cover up and linked the case to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray. A left leaning source also mentions that Satish Salian's petition sought an FIR against several persons, including Aaditya Thackeray. While the police previously maintained that the parents did not suspect anyone, the High Court questioned the decision to close the inquiry and observed that several aspects of the case required scrutiny.
