- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every source for this story reports from Israel.
A Border Police officer was shot and killed by fellow officers on Saturday after opening fire on a police unit in the Kiryat Hasharon area of Netanya. The deceased officer, identified as 20 year old Sergeant David Amrani, was a resident of Netanya who had joined the Judea and Samaria Border Police in August 2024. No other casualties were reported in the incident.
Police received reports of an armed man with a long gun roaming between homes in the city, which led to a shootout between the suspect and responding officers. While the motive remains under investigation, one report states that Amrani suffered from PTSD. Another report notes that Israeli media suspected the culprit to be an IDF soldier.
Outlets of different political leans framed the identity and state of the shooter differently. A center lean outlet highlighted the officer's reported struggle with PTSD. A center right lean outlet focused on the officer's service history and the suspicion that the shooter was an IDF soldier. A left lean outlet focused on the officer's status as a conscript.
