Borussia Mönchengladbach Dismisses Coach Eugen Polanski After Historic Start

Borussia Mönchengladbach has announced the dismissal of head coach Eugen Polanski and co-trainer Tobias Trulsen. The decision follows a 0:5 defeat against SC Freiburg, leaving the club in last place with zero points and a goal difference of 3:12 after three matches. Sport chief Rouven Schröder stated that while there were positive signs during preparation, the team failed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga. Jan-Moritz Lichte will serve as the interim coach until a permanent successor is found.

This event mirrors the previous season, when the club also dismissed its coach, Gerardo Seoane, after three matchdays. Polanski, who previously coached the club's fourth-tier Regionalliga team, had taken over from Seoane a year prior and led the team to a twelfth-place finish. The current situation has drawn comparisons to that earlier failure, as the club once again entered the season with a coach who faced significant doubts from the environment and the supervisory board.

Reports on the causes of the decline vary by perspective. Center-left sources frame the situation as a repetitive management failure, describing it as a horror movie sequel where the club made the same mistake twice by trusting the wrong coach. In contrast, a center-right source argues that Polanski only bears partial responsibility.
