Brazil's official inflation, measured by the Extended National Consumer Price Index (IPCA), slowed to 0.07% in July, according to data released Tuesday by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). This figure represents a deceleration from the 0.16% recorded in June and is the lowest rate for the month of July in four years. Over the last 12 months, the IPCA accumulated a rise of 4.44%, which remains below the Central Bank's inflation target ceiling of 4.5%. However, the result was slightly above the financial market's median projection of 0%.

The food and beverages group saw its second consecutive monthly decline, falling 0.67% in July. Significant price drops were recorded for tomatoes, which fell 29.09%, English potatoes, which fell 19.59%, carrots, which fell 14.41%, and ground coffee, which fell 2.45%. Conversely, prices rose for long life milk by 2.47%, fruits by 1.2%, and onions by 7.74%.

Other factors influencing the index included a 3.09% increase in electricity bills, which was the primary individual contributor to the rise in inflation. In contrast, gasoline prices fell by 1.37%. While food prices at home decreased, eating out at bars and restaurants accelerated from 0.15% in June to 0.55% in July, a trend attributed to holiday demand and higher operational costs.
