Brazilian Federal Police Investigate Congressman Cezinha de Madureira for Influence Peddling

The Brazilian Federal Police have launched the third phase of Operation Transparency, targeting Congressman Cezinha de Madureira (PL-SP) and his wife, Valéria Rodrigues Linhares. The investigation, authorized by Supreme Court Minister Flávio Dino, alleges that the congressman used his parliamentary position to sell the perception of influence over ministers of superior courts, including the Supreme Federal Court (STF), the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), and the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). The operation included four search and seizure warrants in Brasília and São Paulo.

A central piece of evidence is the seizure of 510,000 reais in cash from Valéria Rodrigues Linhares at Congonhas Airport on August 25. Investigators believe this money is linked to a scheme where high payments were conditioned on the outcomes of ongoing legal processes. According to the investigation, the scheme involved a division of tasks: Mariângela Fialek allegedly captured cases and produced legal documents, while Valéria handled contracts and credit assignments. Cezinha reportedly used his institutional access to make direct personal requests to judges.

Minister Flávio Dino clarified that the judges mentioned in the investigation are not suspects and that there is no evidence they requested or received undue advantages. The defense for the congressman has stated that he is available to authorities and maintains his conduct has been irreproachable. One report noted that the defense suggested the operation might be driven by political or electoral circumstances.
