BRICS Nations Adopt New Delhi Declaration to Boost Agriculture, Science, and Education

BRICS member countries have adopted the New Delhi Declaration, agreeing to several new initiatives focused on agricultural productivity, scientific research, and educational cooperation. A primary focus of the agreement is the establishment of the BRICS Agro-Inputs, Genetic Resources, and Information Network, known as AGRIN. This network is designed to be collaborative, non-binding, and farmer-centric, focusing on agro-inputs and genetic resources. Additionally, members agreed to continue developing the BRICS Grain Exchange, a trading platform that may eventually expand to include other agricultural commodities. These agricultural measures come amid concerns over acute food price volatility and supply crises, including fertilizer shortages.

Beyond agriculture, the grouping announced plans to deepen cooperation in science and innovation. This includes the creation of the BRICS Science and Research Repository to share research outputs and the launch of the BRICS Youth Startup Platform to support youth-led ventures. The members also adopted a 2026 to 2030 action plan for research infrastructures and mega science projects through the BRICS Global Research Advanced Infrastructure Network.

In the field of education, the nations expressed support for a new BRICS University Global Ranking and Evaluation System, with a specialized workshop scheduled for late 2026. The declaration also highlighted the importance of traditional and indigenous knowledge systems, as well as cooperation in early childhood care, digital literacy, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. The grouping also reaffirmed its commitment to the BRICS Technical and Vocational Education and Training Cooperation Alliance to align training programs with market demands.
