Bolivian authorities seized a bus containing 86.5 kilograms of marijuana in Cochabamba on Tuesday. The vehicle, operated by the company Buses Cosmos, had been contracted to transport the Sao Paulo FC delegation during their stay in Bolivia for the Copa Sudamericana. Officers from the Mobile Police Unit for Rural Areas (Umopar) discovered the drugs in four bags during a check at the Locotal control point. Three people, identified as the drivers responsible for the transport, were detained.
Sao Paulo FC did not have contact with the seized vehicle or the individuals involved. The club had planned its logistics to stay in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, which is approximately 400 meters above sea level, to mitigate the effects of altitude before traveling to La Paz for their match against Bolivar. Buses Cosmos provided an alternative vehicle to transport the delegation from the airport to their hotel on Monday night. The company issued a statement placing all responsibility on the drivers and stating that the club had no involvement in the incident.
