A Santiago court has initiated the extradition process for two Venezuelan citizens detained in Florida, United States, in connection with a criminal investigation known as Operation Tokyo. The individuals were arrested in Orlando and Tampa following an Interpol alert. One of the suspects, Marcos de Jesús Reyes Acosta, is the sole owner of Bexgroup, a company alleged to have served as a front for laundering approximately 17 billion pesos for a criminal cell. The investigation focuses on an extortion network operated by the Tren de Aragua gang in Chilean nightclubs. Prosecutors estimate the cell moved nearly 78 billion pesos out of the country, primarily via cryptocurrencies, to a leader currently held in Colombia.
In a separate development, the Investigative Police (PDI) detained a court official from the 3rd Oral Criminal Court of Santiago. The official is accused of bribery and revealing secrets by leaking confidential information about legal proceedings to criminal organizations in exchange for money. The investigation began after drug trafficking suspects were alerted to intrusive measures. Authorities seized technological equipment and documentation during searches of the official's workplace and home.
