Malacañang suspended face to face classes in all levels for public and private schools in Metro Manila and 17 provinces for Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The suspension is a response to significant rainfall triggered by the southwest monsoon, also known as habagat. The affected provinces include Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro. Government offices in Metro Manila and these 17 provinces were also advised to implement alternative work arrangements.
Local government units issued additional announcements. In Metro Manila, Marikina City suspended classes for all levels. In Calabarzon, various towns in Batangas and the province of Cavite suspended classes. In Central Luzon, specific areas in Pampanga including San Simon and Santo Tomas suspended classes until Thursday, August 20. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration stated that rains are expected to prevail over the western sections of the country until Friday due to two low pressure areas.
The weather has already caused displacement in some areas. In Lian, Batangas, 96 families, totaling 318 individuals, evacuated to centers on Tuesday, August 18, as relentless rains triggered flooding.
