A polar air mass is moving across Brazil, causing a significant drop in temperatures and bringing rain to several regions ahead of the Independence Day holiday on Monday. The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued yellow alerts for potential danger due to temperature declines in various areas, including the state of São Paulo and 24 cities in the south of Rio de Janeiro and the Costa Verde region. In São Paulo, temperatures are expected to drop to minimums between 9°C and 10°C on Sunday, with maximums remaining low around 14°C to 17°C. Rain is forecast for much of the state, with the coast and the Vale do Paraíba being particularly impacted. The National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters (Cemaden) has warned of moderate risks of flooding and landslides in the Vale do Paraíba due to persistent rainfall.
The cold front is also affecting other parts of the country. In Mato Grosso do Sul, temperatures in some areas may fall below 10°C by Monday, with Campo Grande seeing a minimum of 13°C on Sunday. In Belo Horizonte, the temperature is expected to drop following a hot Saturday, with a forecast minimum of 15°C for the holiday on Monday and a possibility of heavy rain. In the south of Brazil, MetSul meteorology reports that some cities in Rio Grande do Sul could experience negative temperatures by Monday. The Brazilian Navy has also issued a warning for rough seas with waves up to 2.5 meters along the coasts of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
