Colo Colo Awaits Arrival of World Cup Sensation Vozinha Amid Delay Rumors

Colo Colo has announced the signing of 40 year old Cape Verdean goalkeeper Vozinha, though the player has postponed his arrival in Chile due to personal reasons. The goalkeeper, whose legal name is Josimar José Évora Dias, is expected to sign a six month contract with an option to extend for one additional year. While the club initially expected him to arrive on Thursday, sporting director Jaime Pizarro stated that the delay is due to personal matters and immigration procedures.

The delay has sparked various reports regarding the status of the transfer. Some reports suggest that the Moroccan club RS Berkane has made a competing offer for the goalkeeper. Additionally, it was noted that Vozinha is scheduled to appear at the Rio Innovation Week event in Rio de Janeiro on August 5. Despite these uncertainties, Colo Colo coach Fernando Ortiz confirmed he has spoken with the player and that Vozinha is happy about the opportunity to join the team.

In a significant administrative move, the ANFP Council of Presidents approved a special exception allowing the goalkeeper to use the nickname Vozinha on his jersey. This was a specific demand from the player, as league regulations typically require the use of legal surnames.

Outside of Chile, rumors linked the goalkeeper to the Mexican club Querétaro. However, Ed Malyon, a co owner of Querétaro, publicly denied that the club was working to sign the African goalkeeper.

Vozinha gained global recognition during the 2026 World Cup, where he helped Cape Verde secure draws against Spain and Uruguay before a narrow loss to Argentina in the round of 32. His profile has risen significantly since the tournament, with his Instagram following growing from 50,000 to over 29 million followers.
