Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
Every outlet covering this story shares the same political lean; read with that in mind.
The Colombian Congress approved the 2027 government spending budget on Monday, totaling 634.9 trillion pesos, which is approximately 206.6 billion US dollars. The budget includes a 16 percent increase in spending and projects a record fiscal deficit of 9.4 percent of the gross domestic product. This deficit will be largely funded through an increase in public debt. The budget was passed after the government of President Abelardo De La Espriella incorporated additional funding needs, including costs related to a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that occurred in August.
Finance Minister Miguel Gómez stated that while this was not the ideal budget to start the mandate, it is what the country can afford given the current state of the national economy. The administration plans to introduce a tax reform package called the Rescue Law to reduce public spending and lower the deficit to 7.2 percent of the gross domestic product. President De La Espriella described the fiscal situation as critical and attributed the deterioration to corruption and misuse of resources under the previous administration of Gustavo Petro, though no evidence was provided for these claims.
Different center leaning sources framed the event with different focuses. One center leaning source emphasized the political context and the government's plan to mitigate the deficit, while another center leaning source focused on the reaction of investors and the growth of the debt burden.
