Czech tennis players Jakub Mensik and Karolina Muchova won the US Open mixed doubles championship on Wednesday in New York. The pair defeated the team of Flavio Cobolli of Italy and Belinda Bencic of Switzerland with a score of 6-3, 1-6, and 10-6 in the super tiebreak. This victory marks the first Grand Slam title for both the 20 year old Mensik and the 30 year old Muchova. The champions received a prize of 1 million US dollars.

To reach the final, Muchova and Mensik defeated the Russian duo of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev in the semifinals. Earlier in the tournament, they overcame the team of Marcelo Arevalo and Kristina Mladenovic as well as the American pair of Emma Navarro and Tommy Paul. Cobolli and Bencic reached the final by defeating Gael Monfils and Elina Svitolina in the semifinals and Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams on Tuesday.

The match lasted one hour and twelve minutes on the Arthur Ashe court. The victory was secured when Mensik hit an ace on the final point of the match.
