Delhi Implements Massive Security and Traffic Measures for BRICS Summit

Delhi is mounting a large scale security operation for the 18th BRICS Summit, which will take place at Bharat Mandapam from September 11 to 13. Approximately 25,000 security personnel, including over 100 National Security Guard commandos and 10,000 paramilitary forces from the CRPF, ITBP, BSF, and RAF, have been deployed to secure the venue and 11 designated hotels. The security grid includes anti drone systems, anti aircraft guns, snipers, and anti sabotage teams. Section 163, which prohibits the gathering of people, has been imposed in central and Lutyens Delhi, and will be extended across the city on Saturday and Sunday. The government has declared a holiday on Friday and Saturday, and courts will remain closed.

Traffic police have identified more than 35 affected routes and issued 22 diversions to manage the movement of dignitaries. A motorcade rehearsal is scheduled for September 9 from 7 pm to 10 pm, during which time the public is strongly encouraged to use the Metro for airport travel. Specific alternate routes have been established for commuters traveling to and from the New Delhi, Old Delhi, and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations. While major markets like Connaught Place and Chandni Chowk will remain open, roads leading to Lutyens Delhi will be largely shut over the weekend to prevent unauthorized access.
