Dentists Denounced for Serious Patient Injuries in Espírito Santo

The Public Ministry of Espírito Santo (MPES) has filed a complaint against dentists Mariana Barros Laranja Roeder and her nephew and partner, Nathan Laranja Roeder Holz, for causing serious and very serious bodily injuries to three patients. The MPES alleges that the pair practiced medicine illegally by performing procedures that exceeded the legal limits for dentistry, specifically mini facial lifting procedures at the Instituto Laranja. These procedures reportedly resulted in severe complications, including infections, necrosis, and permanent deformities. The MPES has requested that the defendants be prohibited from leaving the country without judicial authorization and has sought 500,000 reais in compensation for the victims. Additionally, the prosecution requested a precautionary suspension of their aesthetic and surgical work, with a proposed fine of 50,000 reais for every unauthorized intervention.

Mariana Roeder, who is an influencer and teacher of post graduate courses, responded via social media by stating that she is a victim of persecution. She claimed that her success and pioneering work may be the reason for the accusations, though she acknowledged that she is responding to the charges one by one. The defense for the investigated parties stated that the complaint is a preliminary accusation and not a sentence, adding that they will comply with any judicial determinations. Investigations also revealed that the Instituto Laranja operated with an expired sanitary permit. One victim reported that she was taken directly to surgery after a facial scan without blood tests or cardiac evaluations. The Regional Council of Dentistry of Espírito Santo has been notified to take appropriate action.
