Dinorah Figuera Arrives in Venezuela for Transition Negotiations with Chavismo

Opposition leader Dinorah Figuera arrived in Venezuela on Wednesday from Spain to continue dialogues with Chavismo regarding a political transition. The negotiations are conducted with the support of the United States. Figuera arrived at the General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport accompanied by a commission of former deputies from the 2015 National Assembly. According to Figuera, the immediate priorities of the agenda include addressing the aftermath of earthquakes on June 24 that caused thousands of casualties and homelessness. Other key objectives include the recomposition of the National Electoral Council, the reinstitutionalization of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice, and the guarantee of civil and political rights. Figuera stated that the process will continue until December 2026. The center left source frames the situation as Washington and the Rodríguez family leading negotiations while Maria Corina Machado is sidelined. In contrast, the center right source focuses on Figuera's arrival and her specific policy priorities, noting that the U.S. Department of State tasked her with these dialogues following the capture of Nicolás Maduro by U.S. troops in January.
