A 37 year old doctor, identified as Gassi Paola de Souza Mazia, was found stabbed to death in her apartment in Maringá, Paraná. Her husband, 25 year old lawyer João Vitor Domingues Romeiro, was arrested as the primary suspect in the crime, which is being investigated as femicide. The couple's infant son was found unharmed in the apartment and was placed in the care of relatives.
According to the Military Police, the suspect was located in Mandaguari, approximately 32 kilometers from Maringá, where he was found injured in a car with wounds to his neck. Police reports indicate that Romeiro confessed to the killing to witnesses at the scene. He was provided medical treatment and remains hospitalized under police escort.
Both the victim and the suspect were public servants. Mazia worked as a family doctor at a Basic Health Unit in Sarandi, while Romeiro served as a legal advisor for the General Attorney's Office of Marialva. Following the incident, the municipality of Marialva announced Romeiro's immediate dismissal from his position. The city of Sarandi issued a note of regret and expressed repudiation of violence against women.
