- A hatched block means the outlet is affiliated with, or controlled by, a state.
Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.
Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.
The owner of each outlet is listed as a matter of record, not as a judgement about the outlet.
A display of 2,977 drones illuminated the sky over the New York harbor on Wednesday to recreate the silhouette of the Twin Towers. The event, titled 2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor, served as a tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks ahead of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy. The number of drones used corresponds exactly to the number of people killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and aboard United Airlines Flight 93.
Produced by creative director Addison Mehr in partnership with Sky Elements and supported by the New York Foundation of the Arts, the performance featured lights that formed a spiral before creating architectural scale replicas of the towers. Organizers stated that the project was developed in collaboration with the 9/11 community, including survivors, first responders, and family members of the victims. Some participants described the individual lights as representations of lives that continue to live on despite being cut short.
While most reports focused on the commemorative nature of the event, center-right sources emphasized the goal of transforming a collective statistic into individual memories by using separate points of light rather than a solid mass. Center and center-left reports provided more historical context regarding the Al Qaeda attacks, detailing the specific timeline and targets of the four hijacked aircraft.
