Two drones were sighted flying over a key military base in western Germany during the night between Thursday and Friday. The German military confirmed that the drones made six flights over Materiallager Mechernich, a strategically important logistics hub located southwest of Bonn. The facility is known as the Patriot Werft because it is likely the only site in Europe where American Patriot missile defense systems are repaired. One of the drones was reported to be a Fly 380 VTOL, a model capable of carrying a load exceeding 10 kilograms.
This incident occurred shortly after a separate event on Wednesday at Leipzig airport, where a drone carrying an improvised explosive device was discovered near a Ukrainian aircraft. The bomb was described as powerful enough to destroy a plane, and anti terror police are investigating the event as potential sabotage.
Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the situation as a hybrid attack and a new threat scenario, stating that he does not rule out the involvement of a foreign power. The Russian embassy responded by calling the claims a new wave of anti Russian hysteria and asserting that the reports of hybrid attacks are invented to provoke Russia. Military police investigated the Mechernich incident before handing the case over to civilian police.
