Ebola Outbreak Affects Six Provinces in Democratic Republic of the Congo

An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has affected six provinces, resulting in 2,680 deaths and 5,584 confirmed cases. According to the National Institute of Public Health, 1,215 patients have recovered, while 846 people remain hospitalized or in isolation. The current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there are no specific treatments, although the government has received 16,520 Ervebo vaccines and the World Health Organization is testing two other vaccines in phase 1 human trials.
