Political lean describes where an outlet sits within the politics of its own country. It is never a position on a single global scale.

Political lean is comparable inside one country and not across them, which is why the bar groups by country first. Publicly funded broadcasters are not marked as state-linked.

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has become the deadliest ever recorded in the country, with over 2,300 deaths and nearly 5,000 confirmed cases reported within three months. WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the epidemic is far from being controlled and that there is a high risk of international spread. The virus is currently killing nearly one person every 30 minutes. The outbreak has expanded to 54 health zones across six provinces: Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uélé, Tshopo, and Bas-Uélé. Ituri remains the most affected province, accounting for 85 percent of confirmed cases in the DRC.

Health officials attribute the rapid spread to population mobility, insecurity, and mass displacements. There have been 12 reported attacks on health facilities since the emergency was declared on May 17. Additionally, at least 155 health workers have been diagnosed with the disease, resulting in 45 deaths. While the DRC is the epicenter, cases have also been recorded in Uganda and France. The European Commission has announced the delivery of 2.5 million euros worth of diagnostic tests to the African Union to help detect cases earlier.

Outlets with a center lean focus on the scale of the tragedy and the WHO's assessment of whether the situation can be brought under control. Center left outlets emphasize the systemic failures and the humanitarian crisis, highlighting the specific impact of insecurity and the lack of available vaccines for the Bundibugyo species of the virus.
