Edgar Grospiron Resigns as President of 2030 Winter Olympics Organizing Committee

Edgar Grospiron, the 1992 Olympic moguls champion, has left his position as president of the Organizing Committee for the 2030 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in the French Alps. The departure was officialized on Thursday following a meeting of the executive board. The organizing committee described the move as a deliberate and organized transition taken in the interests of the project and its governance. Grospiron confirmed the decision on LinkedIn, stating that it followed months of tension and that conditions were no longer met for him to continue.

Grospiron's tenure, which began in February 2025, was marked by significant internal instability. Several high profile executives resigned during his presidency, including chief operating officer Anne Murac, communications director Arthur Richer, and remuneration committee president Bertrand Méheut. In February 2026, director general Cyril Linette also left the committee, citing insurmountable disagreements with Grospiron. Additionally, the project faced logistical setbacks, such as the decision to move ice sports events from Nice to Lyon and Heerenveen after the mayor of Nice refused to allow the conversion of the Allianz Riviera Stadium into a rink.

Despite the turmoil, French sports minister Marina Ferrari stated that the bid continues to move forward and expressed confidence in the future of the project. The International Olympic Committee also praised Grospiron for his work in laying the foundations for the Games. An extraordinary general meeting is scheduled for September 14 to manage the transition until a new president is appointed.
